What is Grad Party?
Meet the Tradition almost as old as Battlefield Itself.
Unless you’ve been to the party, it’s very hard to fathom the scale and breadth of the evening that keeps literally 100s of today’s teens engaged and entertained for hours. The night takes about 11 months of work by a small army of volunteers to make it a reality. About 5-6 years ago we were blessed to be able to move the event from Battlefield to the George Mason Freedom Center in Manassas. In addition to the pool, complete with floating obstacle course and giant hot tub, and basketball, each year we hire caricature artists, licensed massage therapists to provide chair massages, and casino games with professional dealers (don’t worry, there’s no gambling!). We've had a gym filled with inflatables, a game truck, a photo booths, and a rage room. And the food! Generous community restaurants donate pizza, Mexican food, chicken, and sweets. And we’ve been able to bring in the types of specialty food vendors you’d typically see at food truck events and farmer’s markets. At the end of the night, we give away prizes to our students. They range from gift cards, to concert tickets, to CASH. But the catch? The students must stay until the end of the night to win!!! Lots of parents tell us their senior told them they’d go for an hour and ended up there all night. Getting kids to stick around has never been a problem because they are having such a great time.
We are very proud of our event that is the envy of our peer schools. Past and current chairs have advised both Gainesville and now Patriot in their efforts to hold such a celebration.

Who Pays for This?!
The event is 100% self-funded each year through LOTS of fundraising, ticket sales, and the generosity of our community in the form of cash, food, and merchandise donations, large and small. We are thrilled to recognize our donors each year because this would truly not be possible without them. The cost of the tickets sold to our students each year is a small fraction of the cost to put on this event. And because we firmly believe that no student should miss this event, we also take donations specifically to cover the cost of tickets for students who request assistance.
But we need your help! We've been doing this for a few years now, and we can tell you that our students get the party that we work for and support.
There are multiple ways you can help us make this event a success.
-
Join the committee. Our next meeting is Thursday, Nov 5th at Velocity Wings and we can always use enthusiastic members.
-
Support our fundraisers. Yes, we have a lot of them. Yes, we’re annoying promoting them all the time. But we try to pick campaigns that are actually useful and you can be excited about supporting. Every single dollar raised goes towards your student’s event.
-
Donate, if you can: .Do you have a business that would like to donate? Do you own a restaurant that can help us feed these hungry teenagers? We love to give our business donors the recognition they deserve. Would you like to contribute personally or Sponsor a Grad to cover the ticket cost for a student who might not otherwise be able to attend? Donations of all types and sizes are what make this event possible. As a subcommittee of the PTO, we are a 501(c)3 organization so your donation may be tax deductible depending on your specific filing situation.
-
Encourage your student to buy the ticket when ticket sales open in January. They will tell you no one else is going. That will be incorrect. Every year we welcome upwards to 300 graduates to our event. They WILL have a good time, and odds are good they’ll go home with a pretty nice prize at the end of the night too.
This year’s class is notably smaller than those previous classes since GHS opening. This makes your support even more essential to us hosting a successful event.
Sounds great. So now what?
Stay tuned to all the great things we’re doing for your Senior. If you haven’t already, join the Class of 2027 page on Facebook and follow us on Instragram.
Better yet, take a look at the pinned calendar post at the top of the Facebook page where we’ll have lots of the senior dates (not just grad party) and important links. We're going to keep this updated throughout the year. We're hoping this helps make it a little easier to keep track of everything going on. And yes, we selfishly hope that it points you in the direction of some of our fundraising.
